Hive ofCreativity

  • 150,000-square-foot
  • 30 film & TV production firms

This former manufacturing building at 609 West Greenwich has been turned into a vibrant center of industry for fashion, film, and media tenants.

This warehouse building was nearly vacant when Centaur purchased the historic 150,000-square-foot structure. The risky acquisition required a substantial and atypical upfront capital commitment, but Centaur saw potential in the West Village/West Soho location – where industry was drying up and media companies were beginning to take root.

Centaur invested heavily in the building, replacing the mechanical systems and ripping out decades of cosmetic modifications to create dramatic wide-open office spaces with exposed original concrete beams, bricks and lofted ceilings. Large new windows were installed, the lobby was enlarged and dramatically redesigned, and full-service amenities were added.

Perhaps Centaur’s most dramatic transformation to date, 609 Greenwich Street has gone from an uninviting manufacturing building to a buzzing hive of media activity that is a vibrant presence in the neighborhood. Until recently, home to 30 film and television production firms headquartered in the 609 Film Center – a pioneering “coworking” space created by Centaur in the building – currently major tenants include ITV, Abel Cine, Dual Star Entertainment, and SoulCycle.
